Being a journalist with The Times, I have until recently been more at home with words
than visuals. But in the past few years I have been initiated into the dark arts
of newspaper design and have returned to my interest in photography. Although I can
use the darkroom I have turned to digital photography, where the rewards can be more
immediate. I love to explore the different methods of computer manipulation of prints
and the exacting control one can wield over the mundane to the spectacular. I print
