For the first time ever, I am actually quite pleased to be classed as old - or at
least mature (and there maybe some who disagree with this description!) but as a
mature fine art student I’ve had a great time. Our group, now known as Group E2,
have produced many exhibitions at Gravelly Barn in Braughing. Alongside the challenge
of having to produce new work for each exhibition we have raised substantial amounts
of money for various charities. This has also become a personal goal, which the group
has supported with such generosity. It has been a very positive way to remember my
sister, Norma, who died from breast cancer.
I feel this is the just the beginning of interesting adventures, and increasing
our artist network. We run workshops at the barn on a regular basis and next year
hope to finalise a

permanent exhibition space. This will increase the availability of art to even more
people. It has been a remarkable feeling to see others enjoy art, either as the tentative
artist or just by appreciating it.
My work concentrates on painting and drawing: I like to use mixed media - oil,
acrylic, emulsion - and also love to use charcoal, ink, and mark making. One things
for sure, despite my ‘mature’ years, there’s still loads to learn and do, and I have
met and am meeting some fantastic people. I say: Long may it continue! jdavalle@aol.com
